A Year End Blog

Hey everyone.

I hope everyone's having a wonderful December. Mine is . . . normal. With the year close to over, it seems like my fantasy novel, Quest for the Witch will be the last novel I publish in 2019. That's too bad. I was hoping to put out another novel after it before the year ended. Oh, well. With how much progress I've made with the novels I'm working on now, you can look forward to two novels minimum to come out in 2020. I just have a few more chapters to go for one of them, and the other is on Part Three, which will be the final part of it.

Both of them are part of two different series that remain ongoing, but once they're done, I'm thinking of going back to the Ben and Co. novel series. If you've been following my blog, you'll know that the last novel of the series I put out wasn't all that great to me. It's not as bad as some of my earliest novels, which I had to take off and reboot, but I just can't say I was satisfied with it, even after trying my best. So this next installation will be like a revenge match. And I really want this next book to work out great since it will be the finale novel of the series. So expect it to be a super edgy, super action epic. I hope to finish the series off by the end of 2020 and then move on to a new teen series, set in the same world. This new series will have supernatural powers too and some suspense and drama, but will have a more slice-of-life feel to it. I've been wanting to write a story like that lately.

Now I can't say for sure whether or not this is the last blog post of the year for me. I'm both lazy and forgetful, after all. So, just in case:

Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays! Happy New Year! And Happy Reading!

Poem: Red

Hey, it's been a while since I last blogged, so I thought I'd take the time to share with you another poem I wrote a long time ago. Presenting: "Red"

*****
Heart aflutter
Feelings rise, rushing to my head
Red all around
But not the Red of Love

Tensions tear at my being
My thoughts clouded
As volume speakers reach new heights

Red Rage blaze
Blood pumps fast
Muscles clench to implosion
The suspense holds strong

And my judgement does blur

Poem: Demons' Night

Night as once a year
Comes and beckons
For Winds to wail
For wolves to howl
And for spirits to roar

Dead branches sway as Shadows rise
It is time
The time of the Demons

Let the dead take back their broken vessels
Hungry and wild, like beasts
Let man's sanity fall with a thirst for blood
As remembered of ancient tyrants

Red Eyes light the darkness
No comfort do they bring
Foolish travelers be lured to their doom
To join the Red Eyes

Laugh, they do at the world's misery
Rejoice, they do to the world's fall
And eagerly they commit, crimes for which there is no redemption

So hide, ye of pure and good
Lock yourselves away in thy homes
Leave not a child outside
Or do, if thou art demonic
And join the ranks of the Night
Of Monsters, Wickedness and Evil

For only those are welcome, who scoff at peace
Who see love disgusting
Who laugh and mock those who preach justice

Now let the Feast of Fear begin!
Let the Drink of Tears start!
Let a Red River run
Fires be snuffed out
No Warmth to be found

Quiver! Shake! Tremble!
There will be no Laughter tonight
Only Whimpers from the Children of Light
For this is the Demons' Night

Happy November, Everyone

Hey all my followers and fans. It's me, Victor, the lazy writer.

How're you all doing? Hope you all had a nice Halloween. Mine was . . . uneventful, like any other day. If you follow me on Twitter, you know how I spent my Halloween, at home, watching people hunt ghosts on reality TV. I also did a little writing and fixing on one of the novels I'm working on.

I had thought about putting out a new poem, but that idea ended up slipping from my mind at the last minute. I might still post something spooky soon, even if it's a little late to the season. Maybe I'll even get started on it after I'm done with this post.

Speaking of novels, October really wasn't my month. Well, a lot of months really weren't my month as a writer. Checking on my records just keeps reminding me to never quit my day job.

Anyway, I'm getting closer and closer to finishing my current novels. My pace is slowing down a bit though. It's been getting harder and harder lately for me to put what I imagine into words, even though there are so many other worlds I want to give shape with them. I keep telling myself to write as my heart desired, but that remains easier said than done. As the saying goes, old habits die hard.

Well, my personal and work life have also taken a lot of my time write now, so there's that.

Hopefully, my fingers will start flying over the keyboard soon, but in the meantime, I've been thinking about what to do in the future. Maybe start a new blog and release a new original story there, just keep things the way they are for now, or try something like Patreon. I'm not sure how that last one would work, or if I'll actually do it. All of these are just ideas I'm floating around right now, after all.

And that's all for this entry.

Happy reading, everyone!

UPDATE

Hey everyone!

How are you all doing? I'm fine. Just living life like usual. My book sales remain depressing, borderline hopeless. I go to work like anyone else, watch TV like anyone else, and write whenever I feel like it. Aaaaand that's about it.

. . .

. . .

Well, maybe not. I think I'm close to reaching the final leg for one of my stories, while the other one is still in the middle part. Just a couple of more chapters and a new book will be on Amazon with all the rest. I hope their sales aren't as bad as what the others have been going through recently, even though I don't think they turned out that bad. I was really satisfied with the way Quest For The Witch turned out. I would go so far as to call it one of my best works. Maybe that's why I'm so attracted to the story right now than with my longer running series. I've already got one more novel planned after the sequel that I'm currently working on, as well as a couple of side stories to add to the overall series.

Well that's all from your favorite indie, self-published underdog writer.

Happy reading everyone!

Quality of Work

Hey, reading fans. It's me, Victor, again. Here with the latest of what's been going on with me.

So, as the name suggested, I thought I'd talk to you all about the quality of my work. If you've been following my blog so far, you'll realize that this is an elaboration of what I've talked about in one of my previous posts about my insecurities.

So, since I'm mainly writing for fun, it's a given that the quality of my writing wouldn't get me in the top sellers list. However, I think I've greatly improved since my early days when I made the first version of the Paladin Academy Chronicles. The quality of the books I had completed so far was so bad, I decided to redo the whole series to what it is now. Don't believe me? Then go check out the reviews over HERE. That was a comment on the first version of Book One of the Paladin Academy Chronicles. I really should have just started a new page for the latest version on Amazon. I wonder why I didn't. But it's already too late for that. Or is it? Now that I think about it, I can probably still do that. But should I really? When it was selling well enough, even with that scathing review? This, I'll have to ponder for later.

Anyway, moving on. Although I believe my writing's a lot less cringe-worthy, there are times where I'm not really satisfied with the way a novel of mine's turned out, which I mentioned in my blog post about my insecurities. I held out on saying which of my books would be an example, but I've decided now to just come clean and say it was the latest installment of my Ben and Co. novel series, titled Extraterrestrial. There are parts in the novel that I have this incredible urge to try and redo.

But like many other times, with some of my other works, the moment I go back to try and edit them, I end up leaving the part be. Why? One: because I couldn't think how it should be changed. Two: I'm a bit lazy so hesitant to put in the extra work. And Three: it just suddenly looks like it fits to me, as if the book itself was telling me this was how it was supposed to go. So, really, in the end, I edited my stories the best I could before I had them published. Meaning, even though it might be sub-par compared to my other stories, the final product out right now on Amazon was the best that I could do for my beloved series, which is frustrating because it shows that's my limit as a writer. I hope to redeem the series one day with the next and true final installment, which I'm planning to start soon after I finish one of the two other stories I've been focused on lately.

One of the reasons my writing's been dipping in quality lately is likely because of everything that's been happening around me, criticisms I've seen of other people's stories, and what I've been seeing on the news. And it doesn't help that I'm already a bit of a withdrawn, introverted person. All these things made me self-conscious of the things I put in my stories, like I'm even more afraid of getting out of my shell now than before in an effort not to offend anyone or something like that. I know that would be ridiculous to a true artist, but I'm only human. I have invisible chains around me like anyone else that holds me back.

Anyway, thanks for putting up with this one writer's rant. I hope you all have a great October and Halloween.

Happy reading, y'all.

Poem: A Day Like Any Other

A day like any other
The sound of fingers clack
As motors whistle
The winds gently sing
And within electronic words recited

The hot rays outside
Shielded by walls of a box
Yet warmth tickles the skin
And slumber sounds are yielded

Letters are birthed
And their world flickers
Between the world of words and the world of pictures
Stories are witnessed
Stories are crafted

Yet with all sounds, there is Quiet
Amid this world of chaos, there is Peace
Against the churning stomach, there is Relaxed
Thus, it is a day like any other

Insecurities

Hey, y'all.

It's Victor here. Here to tell you all that I'm still alive, and still writing. I've been making a lot of headway with some of my stories. Although I think my pace slowed down a little. I also wanted to take the time to share with you all a bit about myself. Buckle up, because things are about to get deep!

So as the title of this post suggests, today's topic will be a bit about my insecurities. I won't give you the whole picture or anything. I'm still a bit reserved about putting myself out there on the internet. Probably always will be. But, yes, I have insecurities. Come on, I'm only human. And some of those insecurities have to do with my writing. Honestly, sometimes I feel a bit unsatisfied with the work I've published, even though I've tried editing the story and the way it was written as much as I could before I actually hit the "Submit" button on Amazon. This holds especially true for some of my latest works. I won't say which. I'll have you figure it out for yourselves, and make your own judgments.

And it doesn't help, at all, when I look over my records lately and see how my works are doing. I'll give you a hint: so keeping my day job.

That's all I really wanted to share with you right now. Thanks for putting up with me and my less-than-subtle whining.

Happy reading, everyone!

Poem: Wicked Era

Color is no more
Birds will not sing
Paradise becomes a wasteland

Lady Liberty weeps as
An Era of Darkness is endured
Lady Justice suffers as
She is chained by her own Servants

The Warrior has become the Joker
Who dances for Dark Kings
Knights lose Honor
Whose Faith turns to Corruption

Hallowed Ground
A Circus it has become
A Court of Clowns
That None find amusing

The Eternal Fight turns
That is all We pray
May the Wicked Era end
And the Villains smited upon fall

Let Their Ragnarok come
So I can only hope
I await the next Revolution

Poem: My Worlds

My Worlds are out there
My Words are spread to the World
And yet I remain in the Shadows
Mediocrity is what I still embrace

My Name is known only to a Few
My Heroes remain in the Dark
Their Adventures tragically Secret
Their Deeds barely Sung

I am saddened my Children won't reach High
I am saddened my Children don't fly
For them, I wish all the Success in the World
But reality is not kind, not miraculous
Not for I, or my Treasured Children

For Mediocrity is the best I could hope for
For Obscurity is all I can gain
The Shadows remain cast
Over my Children ever more.

I changed my mind

Hey everyone.

So in my previous post, I mentioned how I'd divide up my current project into different parts to publish them individually.. Well, I changed my mind. It turned out to take less chapters than I thought, so I thought I'd stick to making just one volume that encompassed all the story arcs. I'll still divide them into parts, but I'll hold off on publishing until I put them all together. Sorry if I got your hopes up with this, but I gotta do what I think is best for the novel.

Anyway, happy reading!

Structure

Hey, everyone!

I hope you've all had a good August so far. Me? It's going so-so. I've been making good headway of one of my current novels. Speaking of which, I thought I'd take the time to let you all know what I'm planning for it.

As I think I mentioned in an earlier blog, I'm working on the sequel to Quest for the Witch. Quest for the Witch, if you don't already know, follows the adventures of a witch's apprentice, who has to go on a quest across the country, and end up helping out others with their serious magical problems along the way. The way I made that novel, it was like a couple of episodic adventures, or mini-story arcs piled up into one novel. I planned to do the same for the sequel, but because of the way the first story arc's going right now, I'm instead going to divide the novel into parts and publish those parts separately. It was a strategy I thought about using for a while now, so the sequel to Quest for the Witch is a good opportunity for me.

I'm already close to finishing up Part One of my new novel Journey With A Witch. Just a few more chapters to go. And then I'll have it published on Amazon Kindle. For the individual parts, I might just stick to solely eBooks, and then when it comes time to compile them all into one volume, then I'll have the story published in paperback.

So about Journey With A Witch, like I mentioned earlier, it's about a bunch of kids who wound up in the world of Quest for the Witch and must travel with a witch they meet in order to find a way home. They'll experience tons of adventures along the way and may even end up saving a town or two. I hope you look forward to them.

I'm also planning to make each of the eBook versions of the parts free for a week at or around the time they're published. So yay to you guys who can enjoy my novel without actually paying for it.

Well, that's all I got to say this time around.  See you next time!

Happy reading!

Writing Updates

Hey, everyone!

I hope you've all had a great summer. Mine is pretty much sweltering. But that's to be expected living in an island state.

Anyway, as I had mentioned in my earlier blog, I've decided to work on a sequel to my fantasy novel, Quest for the Witch. It is what some people would call an "Isekai" story, in that it's about how a bunch of kids from our world somehow end up in another world, which, for this story, happens to be the world of Gwendolyn the Eternal Witch. I've been moving pretty quickly through the story, but I'm sure I'll slow down, eventually. I might be more experienced at writing than when I first started the previous story, but it's not like I'm a master of it. Even now, I'm struggling with two other stories that I've been working on, one to the point of taking a seat in my backlog again.

I'll be focusing on the two fantasy works on my plate for a while. Maybe when I'm done, I'll finally get to working on the final main novel of a teen series I've really taken a liking towards, the supernatural, sci-fi thriller series, the Ben and Co. Novels. I purposely left some questions left unanswered in the last novel I published, Extraterrestrial which will be followed up on in the next one. Can any of you guess what to expect in the next novel? If not, too bad. I'm not going to give any more hints than I already did in the novel.

Anyway, that's all the updates I could think to give you.

Happy reading, everyone!

Poem: Coward

Another day, another poem. I hope you all enjoy!

------------------------------

Never can I erase this Anxiety
Anger flares each and everyday
I dread coming days
Events that bring me Stress
Events that could turn my Fate
Better or Worse

They approach ever slowly
But surely They approach
There is no delaying it
There is no stalling it
There is no diverting it

Yet I pray that It is delayed
Yet I pray that It is stalled
I can only hope It be diverted

These are things I want not face
These are things I want not endure
For weak, I am
For Cowardly, I am
Thus is Me

Poem: Misfortune Dost Follow

Misfortune!
Misfortune dost follow!
It dost follow everywhere, everywhen!
I do not welcome it.
I reject each and every Misfortune
With all my Heart and Soul.

It matters not how little.
I will reject it.
I pray not to experience it.
Prayers that are almost never answered.

Woe is me who must face this tragedy.
Woe is me that precious time is taken.
So I selfishly lament.

A Shadow looms before me.
A Time has been appointed.
To that Shadow, I walk.

No matter how much I delude on my Luck
It draws ever closer.
I fear it.
I dread it.
But that matters not.

I have been Summoned.
A Call I must answer.
Unnecessary is what I want to be.
But my Summons remains unrescinded.

Hate I feel to the Foe
I am called to oppose.
Grief he has caused I.
To him, I will make pay.
That is my only solace
For all this inconvenience.

I am no hero.
Grandeur, I do not seek.
Modestly, I walk.
Meekly, I creep.

I reject the path of Villains
But so too, do I reject the path of Heroes.
For I am but a lowly, selfish and normal Human.

Quest for the Witch

AT LAST!

I've done it! It has taken me close to three years, but I finally completed and released my latest fantasy novel, Quest for the Witch on Amazon! It and its paperback version are both live! Well, they have been for some time now. But I've only found the time to blog about it right now, close to midnight on July 18, 2019.

Firstly, here's a bit of history about my latest novel, a behind the scenes look, if you will:

It all started when I was just a beginner member of a blog site called Hubpages.com. Back then, I was still uncertain about a few things, like what would be good content to post there. That was when I decided to put my stories out for an actual audience to read and critique, the very first of which was my story that I tentatively titled "Quest for the Witch".

Despite it being my very first story project on Hubpages, I ended up putting it aside for other works, like the reboot of my Paladin Academy series, and started new series like the Ben and Co. novels. It was only lately that I found time and determination to get that novel done as soon as possible. Ironically, the story "Quest for the Witch" was only completed AFTER I had decided to quit Hubpages permanently. And in the course of doing that, I ended up coming up with a possible sequel to the story, which I'll get started soon, adding to my already huge workload of stories I want to put into paper (figuratively, since I use a computer for this stuff now).

Now, have a peek at the cover I've chosen for my book, made with a little help from Amazon's book cover making program, and my own artistic talent:

Nice, right? If not, please put it to me gently.

Next up, the summary of the book! What is it about? Well, in a nutshell, it's about a girl named Alexandra, who's the apprentice to an old, shapeshifting witch. She had been trapped in the witch's tower for all her life, got fed up and tried to escape with the help of a friend from the nearby village. The plan ultimately fails when the witch catches them, but then decides that if Alexandra really wanted to leave that badly, she could go, for a price. And that price, is to take the witch's name and go on a quest for her. So, Alexandra, going by the witch's name, Gwendolyn the Eternal Witch, must travel across the land, passing through different towns, meeting new people, and making new friends. But it's not all fun and games, for the land has been ravaged by a natural disaster called Dark Magic, which infests places, bringing about random, horrible effects. And, of course, Alexandra will have to deal with them all.

Pretty exciting, right?

You can find the books by searching my name and the title of the book on Amazon. Or, you could just click this direct link to the eBook:

I also have the paperback out, which you can find here:

Happy Fourth of July, Plus Some Plans For the Future

Hey, everyone!

Happy Fourth of July! 2019! Wow, time sure flies by so fast. It's already been over half a year. I hope everyone's having a good time. I know I am, just chilling on my day off and all that.

I'm still brushing up my latest complete novel. I do that every couple of minutes, watching TV in between as a sort of break. Or working on my other novel.

Now on to my plans. As you all probably can tell, I'm someone who writes on impulse. It can be a bit of a struggle for me to stick to one project all the time. I've currently got a few stories in the works, that I've done side by side, with more focus on whatever sticks with me at the time, depending on my mood. I've added a few things to the sequel to a horror/supernatural action novel that I published a couple of years ago. I'm not sure how that's turning out, though I get a bummer feeling while working on it. I hope to get that done with as soon as possible. But now I've been getting an itch to start on the sequel to the latest novel that I just completed. I don't think I can put it off for long, which will just push all my other projects in the back burner. As I had always thought, fantasy with a bit of comedy is just my kind of story. Though action-packed is seem to be what I tend to go for as well.

Anyway, that's all I have to report right now.

Again, Happy Fourth of July! And happy reading, everyone!

Poem: Torment

Hey, everyone.

You might remember me mentioning plans to post some poems I wrote when I got the poetry bug in my last blog post. Well, here it is, titled "Torment". I hope you enjoy it.

The torture is small
But the torture is great
With each repetition, its powers grow
It relentlessly repeats
A small error sends big waves
An impression that never goes away
The pattern never ceases
It always returns
Thus is my irritation
Thus is my torment

Poetry and Stuff in Backlog

Hey, everyone!

Surprised? I bet you didn't expect another blog post so soon. But here it is!

So, just a quick update, but as the title of this post suggests, I've been getting the poetry bug lately. I've written down several poems in a little bit of my downtime. And after a while, I got to thinking I want to share them with you. I'll post one or two poems at a time, maybe as a weekly thing until I run out. But you all better be prepared. These poems are expressions of my feelings and views. Expect plenty of them to show just how petty I am on the inside. And there are some not petty stuff mixed in too.

Now, on to my main writing biz. As you all probably know from my previous posts, I've been focusing on a really old project of mine, titled "Quest for the Witch". It was actually the first story I started working on for my Hubpages blog. I'm pleased to announce that I've just got a few more chapters to go before I finish with it. Because I'm focused on that, some of my other writing projects have been put on a growing backlog list of stuff. But have no fear, I'll be back on the other book series' soon enough.

Anyway, here's a little intro to "Quest for the Witch" to give you an idea of what the story is about:

Alexandra has lived most of her life trapped in an old witch's tower. But on her sixteenth birthday, after attempting to escape, and failing miserably, she is given the chance to leave her home and go on an adventure, like she always dream. The catch: she just has to go on a quest for the witch. Now, along with Caesar, her friend, she must journey across the country and face the perils of dark magic that infects the land while taking on the witch's final task to her.

Well? Did that catch your interest? Did it? Did it?

If so, you can look forward to the full novel that'll likely come out in about a month or so. In the mean time, I hope you enjoy the poems I'll be putting on this blog site, which I'll call collectively "Petty and Not Petty Series".

Happy reading!

Extraterrestrial (Excerpt)

Hey, everyone! It's been a long time, hasn't it? How have you all been? Me? The same-old, same-old, just living life day by day, going to work, watching TV, and writing stories in my spare time.

Speaking of stories, I just published another novel on Amazon a few weeks ago. Probably should have made some kind of announcement here longer, but I'm a lazy person who usually just scrolls through social media rabidly once or twice a day, rather than engage.

Anyway, the latest book of mind to hit the Amazon digital shelves is called Extraterrestrial, another installment of my Ben and Co. novel series which is chock full of supernatural, sci-fi action. This time, once more, Ben and his allies find themselves challenged by the very evil, very crazy scientist genius Dynastes. It'll be their final confrontation, and boy do things go crazy around them.

To get a small taste of what to expect in the story, here's an excerpt. If that get's you even a little bit interested, you can find both the ebook and the paperback version of the novel on Amazon by clicking the link HERE.

Enjoy

*****

Wait. What was that?

Hanako bent down, pressing her face close to the monitor. Her eyes were so close that she could make out the colorful digital grains flickering across the screen.

"Hey!" Qian snapped. "Don't put your eyes so close to the monitor. You'll ruin them!"

But Hanako ignored him. She was focused on Jane and John's hands.

That had to be her imagination. Hanako prayed that it was just that. BUt in her heart, she knew that what she saw was not her imagination. And her heart's suspicions were confirmed just a second later.

Around John's hands, electricity visibly crackled. His hands were lade flat at his side, as if poised to stab.

Hanako didn't waste any more time. She broke away from the ring of computers and rushed to Emily.

"Huh!?" Emily cried out. Hanako had reached her just in time before she could open the door and pulled her away. She, then, shoved Emily further in to the room.

"What was that for!?" Peeved at how roughly Hanako had treated her, Emily angrily demanded an explanation. Hanako, however, ignored the question.

"Stay behind me!" she barked. "Grandfather, you too!"

"Don't call me that!" Qian snapped. "I'm not your grandfather!"

He was soon cut off by the door shattering from an explosive impact. A large bolt of lightning burst through flying debris and wood splinters. It flew straight for the space between Hanako's eyes.

*****

Well, that's roughly how it'd look. I tried copy-pasting from a word document, but for some reason, Blogger messed it up on the actual page. Not the first time it's happened, and it gets really annoying having to type in everything over again. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the excerpt and will support me on the writing front.

Happy reading, everyone!

Extraterrestrial: A Ben and Co. Novel by [Kwok, Victor]

First Blog Update of 2019

Hey, everyone. I hope you're all doing well. I'm doing so-so, but that's life. Anyway, I've published two novels since my last post, the latest installment of my magical Paladin Academy series, which you can learn more about clicking HERE, and the first installment of a new series called The Dandy Monsters, now available on Amazon as an eBook, which you can find clicking HERE.

To those of you who don't know, the Paladin Academy series is one of the first ever novel series that I've started working on. I've had to redo the whole thing, though, so it's definitely better than when some comments might have been posted. It is a fantasy series that follows the adventures of four students of a prestigious school that has its own magic department, who must deal with the antics of their magic teacher who enjoys tormenting others with his pranks, the quirkiness that comes with a life of magic, and villains emerging from the shadows to take the mysterious powers that one of the students has for their plans.

The new series, The Dandy Monsters, takes place in a world of magic, but separate from the world of Paladin Academy. In the world of the Dandy Monsters, there are different laws of magic, and its existence, as well as those of monsters and fairy creatures remain hidden from most humans. This new series follows an ordinary human boy, Jay Lin, who ends up having a vampire stepbrother who works in a coffee shop run by a werewolf, who also happened to be a top-class sleuth. I hope you'll all follow along as Jay narrates the exploits of his former gentleman thief stepbrother and the werewolf detective who solves case after case of magical crimes.

As of now, I'm focused on one of my oldest works, which I've put off for too long taking care of all the other works I've already published on Amazon. And I'm also working on a new standalone novel, which is pretty much a compilation of shorter stories about gamers playing a fantasy/scifi-type virtual reality game.

That's all the news I've got for you. This has been Victor Kwok, signing off, hopefully not for very long.

Happy reading!
